3.     New MTAC-WLA Branch Members should attend at least one Student Branch Recital before entering students.

4.  Completed application form and fee must reach the first chairperson listed for each Student Branch Recital by the entry deadline listed for that Student Branch Recital.

5.     The Romantic and Contemporary Festivals have their own application forms.
Please be aware that these Festivals have different guidelines.

6.     The fee is $8.00 per student.  Please make checks payable to MTAC-WLA.  The student’s name should appear
somewhere on the check to facilitate bookkeeping.

7.    Piano duets (1 piano, 4 hands) may be presented at all Student Branch Recitals. Duets count as one entry with a fee of $8.00 per team.

8.    Ensembles of any combination of instruments and voices may be presented at all Student Branch Recitals. At least one member of the ensemble must be a student of an MTAC-WLA Branch Member. Ensembles count as one entry with a fee of $8.00 per team.

9.     Students through grade 12 with a minimum of two years of study or who are playing at or above Level 2 (Certificate of Merit) will be accepted.  In choosing pieces for performance, teachers are encouraged to consider the musical as well as the technical content.

10.Repertoire for Student Branch Recitals is limited to standard literature in its original form, i.e., not simplified or otherwise “arranged.”

11. All piano and vocal solo literature must be memorized.
Memorization for instrumental music and ensemble literature is optional.

12. No student may appear twice in the same season with the same composition.

13. Students must have studied with the present teacher for at least six months.

14. A teacher may enter up to three students per Student Branch Recital with a maximum playing time of twelve minutes total.  Time per student is limited to six minutes with no more than two unrelated pieces. Individual works need not be cut as long as the work is not excessively long.  Students should have the opportunity of a practice performance at the teacher’s studio for each piece to be played at the Student Branch Recital.

15. Teachers should instruct their students in a standard concert bow (not a curtsey) before and after their performance.

16. Students should be encouraged to wear “nice” recital clothes rather than jeans and/or T-shirts!

17. Participating students are required to remain in attendance for the entire Student Branch Recital. Every effort will be made to limit each program to approximately one hour.

18. Please submit accurate timings so as to facilitate the above.

19. Students should be encouraged to bring guests.

20. Please encourage parents to leave unruly siblings and children at home!

21. Performers should arrive at the hall no later than ten minutes before the beginning of the Student Branch Recital.

22. Teachers should arrange with the Student Branch Recitals Chair if their students want to try the piano beforehand.  Please do not contact the recital hall authorities directly.
