Eligibility:
-
Grades 7-12
-
Age 18 or
under as of June 1, 2006
-
Students
must have studied with his/her current teacher for at least six months prior
to the competition or must have written permission from the previous teacher
to participate in the competition. (In the latter case, both teachers
will be acknowledged.)

This
competition is for wind, string, brass, percussion, and vocal
students. NO PIANISTS.
-
Previous
winners of the SMC Concerto Competition for Non-Pianists are ineligible.
Rules:
-
Instrumentalists
must prepare one movement (or multiple short movements from the same work)
of a standard concerto. The movement(s) (and cadenza(s), if
applicable) must be memorized.

Vocalists
must prepare one concert aria (or two shorter concert arias). The
aria(s) must be memorized.
-
All
entrants must provide their own accompanist. Teachers may NOT
accompany their own students.
Application
Fees:

Students of
current MTAC or CAPMT teachers: $22 (non-refundable)

All other
students: $27 (non-refundable)

Checks must
be made payable to MTAC-WLA. Please do NOT send cash.

Students
must submit a photocopy of a proof-of-age document (e.g., birth certificate,
passport, student identification card with birth date, driver's license).
Winners:
-
Winners
will be posted at www.mtacwla.org on
the evening of the competition.

Winners
will perform with the Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra, under the
direction of Dr. James Smith, on Sunday, May 7, 2006, 4:00 p.m., at the
Santa Monica College Concert Hall.

Rehearsal
schedule for winners will be announced after the competition.
